Hi, I'm Kaz Laljee, Founder & Director of Soc-Med: Social Media. Here's a little bit more about my journey...
Marketing to Multiple Sclerosis and back again!
With a Post-Graduate Diploma in Strategic Marketing, I somehow ended up as a HR Manager for Tesco. It was midway through my Tesco career that I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and was eventually retired on ill-health grounds in 2011.
Keen to do something with my time and keep myself active and focussed, I set up an organisation called Positive About MS. So in 2010 I put my Marketing qualifications to use and used social media to launch my organisation.
The organisation was well received and now has a very healthy community. We really captured the imagination of the audience and are now on the cusp of charity status. Over the years I have also helped various charities/orgs with their social media and marketing.
Then in the spring of 2014 a friend of mine called me and asked if I was still using social media, I replied, “Yes sure, it’s a good laugh”… He replied, “No Kaz, it’s not a good laugh, people are actually getting paid for it and pretty damn well too!”. After that it was a case of googling and confirming what my friend had said. It seemed that Marketing has developed somewhat and combined with my newly acquired skills, was now called Social Media Marketing.
Here's a short video about my journey from Marketing to MS & beyond!
